Asparagus isn't a very common vegetable in Bangladesh, in fact I never had any before I stepped on to the States. Back in my teenage years, I was a huge Masterchef fan (I know weird but I liked watching people cook) and they often used asparagus. So I had a little idea on how asparagus is usually eaten. Since asparagus doesn't take too long to cook, for my first trial I sauteed it. But it was a major fail for us, my hubby couldn't even finish it. I enjoyed it a lot but I don't know why my hubby found it slimy. And to make it edible for him, I had to find other ways. A very widespread dish in Bangladesh is "ভাজি" meaning sauteed but in Bangladeshi style. After a few trials, now my hubby is a huge asparagus fan. It does almost look like sauteed green beans!

First off, I chopped the asparagus up and threw it in a skillet smeared with oil. I added in some chopped onions, green chili and minced garlic. For seasoning, I used my usual spices: turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt. I let them cook until the asparagus were fully done, about 5-10 minutes I believe. To add a little more flavor to it, I added in a few chopped up shrimps (my favorite). Once everything was done, I usually side it with steamed rice and boiled egg (not always though). Seeing my hubby enjoying it makes me think that I might be a little like my mom, someone who knows how to make people eat just how she taught us to eat vegetables.

Ingredients: (for 2 servings)

2 cups chopped asparagus

4 pcs medium sized shrimps

1 tbsp chopped onions

1 pcs green chili

0.5 tsp minced asparagus

0.5 tsp salt

0.25 tsp turmeric powder

0.25 tsp red chili powder
