Few weeks back during Ramadan, there was a sudden downpour in the middle of summer. We were just getting happy about the warmer weather and the beautiful breeze that came along with it. But it had to change especially on the day, when I got sick. Ramadan gets very difficult for my health, it triggers my chronic gastritis. That was the first day I had to skip fasting because of my stomachache which usually lasts for about 3 to 4 days. So, adding in the downpour, my mood sunk to the lowest possible. My hubby was very busy with his research work too. But out of nowhere, he suggested making the traditional rainy day feast of Bangladesh. And it's none other than my favorite, kichuri. I am sure if you ask any Bangladeshi about rainy day feast, it will always be kichuri no doubt. Even though I was very weak at that time, but just the thought of kichuri in the rainy weather lifted my mood enough to go for it.

So I started with kichuri by adding in some rice, lentil, chopped onions and chopped green pepper in a pot and seasoned it with salt, turmeric powder and red chili powder. Since my stomach was a little sensitive, I held back with the red chili powder. Just before it was done, I added in some canned vegetables (carrots and peas were the only ones I had at that time). As side dishes, I made some omelette and fried eggplants. I have already mentioned these dishes numerous times before, so I will keep it short this time. Next, I was craving salad for a while now, so I ordered in some cucumbers and lettuce earlier. I chopped some them up. I usually drizzle some mustard oil and a pinch of salt on it but I let it be this time.

Everything together tasted so good. It was probably because of the weather, than my cooking expertise. Almost felt like I was back home with my parents and siblings. I have been missing them so much. My hubby does work really hard to keep me from getting homesick. I hope everything gets better soon!
